Chris Sargent's Super Useful Computer Stuff
Ok so let’s do this right. I will assume you have and know nothing. That is not entirely true. I will assume that because you have access to this article that you also have access to an internet enabled computer. Do not complain if the things I’m telling you seem basic or too simplified. Just remember my assumptions, and if what I am saying is going completely over your head and you have no idea what the things I am telling you to do are going to do to your computer, be glad that the instructions are simple enough that you do not have to understand what you are doing to do it correctly.
Hi my name is Chris Sargent and I know a thing or two about computers. No I am not really a programmer (software) or even an electrical engineer (hardware), but I am one of those rare individuals whom have owned a computer since the eighties. Bear in mind as of 1990 only 78,881,000 computers had been made, total, ever. Compare that to the 196,975,000 that were made in 2005 alone. Talk about being on the bleeding edge. What qualifications can that possibly give me? Plenty; It means from purely a Microsoft standpoint, assuming I kept my OS (Operating System e.g. Windows) current, which I have until Vista, I have used DOS, Windows 3.0, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, and Windows XP Pro. Come on I used DOS for Jeezy Creezy’s sake, that’s saying something. My laptop is within reach 90% of the time (yes even in the bathroom and while I sleep). I am the guy that all his friends go to for help with their computer. Yes I am that guy, only I have been that guy since I was a kid helping my friends set up Prodigy (old AOL competitor) and install Oregon Trail.
So yeah I am what you would call a technology centered kind of guy. I am in love with the idea of having a machine do my work for me. That is really the concept at the heart of my love affair with computers. Computers are simply the machines capable of doing the most work for me. So naturally I gravitated to them.
So what kind of work can a computer do for you? What can it not do is a much shorter list and growing shorter every day. Going from windows user, to running a Linux web/mail server, hosting and creating your own site with user email, forums, blogs, and even ad revenue, from home: Sound interesting Start by takeing the first Step. |
